Addiction and negative influences are excuses used for those with lack of discipline and are not strongly instilled with their life values.

This severe addiction is unhealthy as it causes one to neglect other important aspects of their life such as family, education, work, socialising and proper eating and sleeping habits. She said that her reliance on games caused her to “lose my job, neglect household chores, and lose financial aid.” This shows that computer games are harmful to Singaporeans as it can lead to addiction.

Studies show that playing violent video games tend to foster aggressive behaviour, thoughts and feelings in young people in laboratory settings as well as in actual life. For example, in the USA, on April 1999, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold launched an assault on Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado, murdering 13 and wounding 23 before turning the guns on themselves. Harris and Klebold both enjoyed playing the Doom, a game licensed by the U.S. military to train soldiers to effectively kill. This shows that computer games are harmful as it can lead to violence.

Despite the negative impacts such as addiction and violence, our government took measures to ban unhealthy games from the country. This would decrease the risk of such negative impacts. In addition, there are a lot of workshops and self-help desks available to cater to all Singaporeans in order to assist them in self-discipline and upholding certain life values.
